Adopting an animal from Dakota’s Dream
How do I adopt from you?
Our adoption process requires an application which is reviewed by volunteers to make sure the home is suitable for the pet. Upon approval, arrangements will be made with you to finalize the adoption. You will sign an adoption contract and spay/neuter agreement (if applicable).
Is there an adoption fee?
Yes, there is a fee to adopt an animal from us. We are a non-profit and our adoption fee helps to pay for the medical bills of the animals you are adopting from us.The fee may vary depending on the vet-work we have provided to the animal. Every animal is seen by a vet and given age appropriate vaccinations prior to adoption. If the animal is not altered we do require a spay/neuter contract to be signed.
Where can I get an application?
Paper applications are available at both Winchester PetSmart locations and Posh Pets. Electronic copies are available on the website or you can email dakotas.dream@hotmail.com for one.
Surrendering an Animal
What should I do if I cannot keep my pet and want to surrender it to you?
Please email us at dakotas.dream@hotmail.com if you are no longer able to keep your pet. In the email, please list all the information about the pet that you can (name, age, sex, altered? Up to date on vaccinations? Behavior issues? Reason for surrender? How long can you hold onto the animal?). Include pictures when possible.
A representative will contact you about the situation.
Please note: A fee may be assessed upon surrender of the animal. This fee is used to offset costs we may incur to get the animal ready for adoption.
I have adopted an animal from you and can no longer keep it, what should I do?
Please email us at dakotas.dream@hotmail.com if you are no longer able to keep your pet. In the email, please list all the information about the pet that you can (name, age, sex, altered? Up to date on vaccinations? Behavior issues? Reason for surrender? How long can you hold onto the animal?). Include pictures when possible.
A representative will contact you about the situation.

Can I just show up and drop an animal off at one of your adoption centers?
No. Please do not bring an unwanted animal to any adoption partner locations without prior approval from us to accept the animal into our care. Animals at our adoption partner locations must be current on shots and vaccinations before being exposed to other animals, and immediate available space is not guaranteed. Most animals are on a waiting list before taken into care.
Volunteering
I want to volunteer, how can I get involved?
We are always in need of volunteers to clean, to foster, to fundraise, to educate, and more! If you think you have an hour or more a month to help out just let us know! Volunteering is very therapeutic and rewarding. It will make a difference in your life and the life of a homeless animal.
